Payload Used
How payload works.
Payload is different from towing capacity. Payload is what rides in/on the truck; towing capacity is what you pull behind it. A trailer's tongue weight counts against payload, so heavy towing eats into what you can carry.
Frequently asked questions.
What is GVWR?
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum a fully loaded truck should weigh — including the truck itself, passengers, and all cargo. Exceeding it strains the brakes, tires, and suspension.
Does towing reduce my payload?
Yes. A trailer pushes down on the hitch with its tongue weight (usually 10–15% of trailer weight), and that load counts against your payload capacity, not just towing capacity.
Where do I find my exact payload?
Look for the yellow "Tire and Loading Information" sticker on the driver's door jamb — it lists the exact payload for your specific truck as built, which is more accurate than brochure figures.
